A hollow copper electrode smaller than the broken tool dissolves the core of the tool during the process, after which the cutting edges of the broken tool can be easily removed. The electrode does not touch the workpiece during the process, so the workpiece remains undamaged. A cooling emulsion is usually used during the process.
