Mastercam PrimeTurning™
PrimeTurning™ is a new turning method developed in collaboration by Mastercam and Sandvik Coromant. The new innovative PrimeTurning™ method uses CoroTurn® Prime tools. With these tools, turning can be performed in Mastercam both traditionally and with PrimeTurning methods. The new PrimeTurning method enables exceptionally good material removal and tool longevity.
The efficient material removal of the PrimeTurning method relies on the tool insert's setting angle, which allows for a greater feed rate compared to traditional turning. This machining method provides excellent chip control, and the tool can be used in both directions during turning, which extends the tool's life and thus reduces insert changes and production downtimes.
PrimeTurning™ can increase productivity by up to 50% compared to traditional turning. This is because the method allows for higher cutting speeds and larger feed rates during turning, which can significantly reduce machining costs over the long term. Since the cutting is smoother and less tearing, PrimeTurning™ significantly improves tool lifespan. This technology allows for the machining of even complex geometries and profiles that would be difficult to achieve with traditional methods. It also offers the possibility of more efficient workpiece manufacturing with a single fixture. PrimeTurning™ represents a significant leap forward in metalworking technology, providing more efficient, accurate, and cost-effective turning. It allows machine shops to accelerate production times, improve workpiece quality, extend tool lifespans, and reduce tool costs.
